Soprano Jocelyn van Wyk is an actress, stage director, adjunct voice instructor at Utah State University, and owner of a private voice and acting studio. Her hope, in all fields, is to guide music from the written page and bring it to life in a way that brings joy to those around her.
Jocelyn's upcoming roles are Lucy, in Menotti’s The Telephone with Snake River Opera, and Adele in Lyrical Opera Theater’s production of Die Fledermaus. Jocelyn has held a variety of operatic roles with her favorite being; Musetta from La Bohème, the Sandman and Dew Fairy from Hänsel and Gretel, Helen from Three Sisters Who are Not Sisters, Pamina from Die Zauberflöte, Rosalinda from Die Fledermaus, and Beth from Little Women. In 2022 Jocelyn performed with Utah Festival Opera & Music Theatre as a chorus member for their productions of The Magic Flute and Carmen during their 30th anniversary season. Jocelyn has also been featured as a Young Artist Soloist with Orchestra of Southern Utah and Magic Valley Symphony. In 2022 Jocelyn returned to the Magic Valley Symphony as their featured guest soloist in their Romeo and Juliet concert.
Jocelyn is currently directing Snake River Opera’s production of Menotti’s The Old Maid & The Thief. Jocelyn directed SRO's production of Hänsel and Gretel in the fall of 2023 and in the summer she directed Seussical for Cache Theater Company. She has also directed The Pirates of Penzance, Speed Dating Tonight! Jocelyn was the director for Utah Festival Opera Conservatory productions of James and the Giant Peach and Captain Bree and Her Lady Pirates. She assisted in directing several productions while attending university.
Jocelyn received a Masters of Music in Opera Performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College in 2020 where she studied voice with Jayne West. Jocelyn received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Southern Utah University where she graduated summa cum laude in 2017. There she studied voice with Carol Ann Modesitt and acting with Peter Sham.
As a performing artist and director, Jocelyn’s goal is to guide the audience to a world where music is the breath of life and the trials of reality are softened by stories and song.
